As the end of summer is near and many holidays are almost over, I strongly believe that some of you bought a knife as a gift for some of your dear family members or friends.

Knives have been given for decades, but in the early medieval period, people were very superstitious. So, when they received a knife as a gift, they gave the smallest piece of money they had, effectively buying the knife. This was done so the knife wouldn't cut the love, relation, or friendship. This habit was prevalent almost all over Europe. In Great Britain and France, that habit never stopped. In other European countries, it went and came back. In other parts of the world, similar practices applied.

When Europeans crossed over the ocean to conquer the land now known as the United States, the tradition went with those men. And still to this day, they say "a penny for a knife," or is it "a knife for a penny?" So if you get a knife as a gift, please give that person a small piece of money. And keep insisting until they accept it. Or let them read this story. We will be back soon.
