The north of Burgundy

What if? Yes, indeed, what if you live right between two of the most iconic wine regions of the world, Burgundy and Champagne? The north of Burgundy is a one-hour drive, as well, to the south of the Champagne region. So what did the Goibniu decide to do?

Champagne and Burgundy.

This summer, we wandered through the southern reaches of Champagne — passing through the charming village of Essoyes, once home to Renoir (well known for his impressionistic painting art in the early 20th century), and the hidden gem of Les Riceys, known for its rare Rosé des Riceys. The region whispers stories of Louis XIV, who favored wines from here long before the méthode champenoise conquered royal courts.

Then, southward to Burgundy — to Beaune, heart of the Côte d'Or, where history, limestone, and legend meet. We stood at the gates of Romanée-Conti, the holy grail of Pinot Noir, and dove into the strict Grand Cru classification system that defines every slope and sunbeam.

Two regions. Two philosophies. One question: Elegance in bubbles, or purity in stillness: Champagne or Burgundy?

In both regions, you will find still wines as well as effervescent wines. Yes! Because in Burgundy they make crémants, and in Champagne (Les Riceys) they make "Coteaux Champenois." So it depends on what you personally like.

For those that don't like alcoholic beverages, let us tell you that the kitchens of both regions are also famous for their food. And for historical and cultural lovers, you need to look in all directions, because there are many beautiful things and buildings to see and visit.

The roads bring you over hills and valleys, and some landscapes are worth stopping at so you can enjoy them and take beautiful pictures.
