The New Town Physician!
GEC

I hear you thinking, what in the world is this? It is a modern-made knife, but with a completely "old skool" look.
This knife is made by GEC, which stands for Great Eastern Cutlery. They started in August 2006 by reproducing knife models that come straight out of the early western times; trappers, farmers, cattle drivers, and adventurers all carried their specific kind of knife.
Under their brand, they make models that were made in their region, like the model I have here, which says Tidioute Cutlery, a place where they made knives from the 1890s until the 1930s. GEC makes many different models from other no longer existing cutleries in their region. A nice detail to know is that they do not do mass production and they make a few models each month, each time with different handle materials. On their website (link below), you can follow what they currently have in production.
The look and the details of this knife are what I like most about it. That they use carbon steel is no issue for me. It has its own charms, stays sharp, is easy to sharpen, and yes, it can rust, but when you treat it well, it only develops a nice patina.
One of the details that I like the most is the number stamped on the blade; mine says 412226, which stands for: 41 = pattern number, 2 = main blade (in this case, "Regular Spear"), the second 2 means the number of blades (2 on this knife), and the last two numbers are the year it was made; this one is '26.
It is not always possible for me to EDC all the knives I get, buy, or borrow, but I am going to give this particular knife a special EDC place.
If I have made you all curious and you want to find out more about the GEC brand, click on the link below. If you are in Europe and want to avoid taxes and tariffs, go to the TFG link. When they post new GEC arrivals, be fast, because they sell out in the blink of an eye.
Share the Goibniu stories with your friends; it helps us spread the message that knives are tools.
And last but not least, we rate this knife with ####.
