Youtube

Winter 2025. Cold outside, and it is snowing, so it is the perfect evening to watch YouTube. Which channels fit the spirit of Goibniu? Many, but here are my five favorites, and I will briefly explain why. This time, no pictures, but instead, a bunch of links.

A) DBK, standing for Dutch Bushcraft Knives.

This channel has been active since October 2013. With over 319K subscribers and 630 videos, it is, for me, the funniest channel about knives. Maarten and Mikkie B (plays in a group called the Wodan Boys) test knives in crazy ways, sometimes destroying them. They cover a wide spectrum of bushcraft and drool (lol) when preparing meat in their videos. They bring every Thursday a new video out. They are fun to watch, and if you support them on Patreon, you participate in their monthly giveaway.

B) The Best damn EDC

The second channel I like a lot features Taylor Martin, who discusses everyday carry gear and gadgets. He has been active since June 2018. With over 400,000 subscribers and 518 videos, he covers almost everything around EDC: knives, flashlights, wallets, watches, carry bags, and much more. He is also a bushcraft and outdoor fanatic. Many of his videos are filmed inside his studio/loungeroom, but because he enjoys the outdoors, he also goes out to film.

In his YouTube career, he created his community and his own designs, marked with altitude lines. It is always a pleasure to watch his videos and that is why Goibniu rates it with: ####

C) Ericaedc

The channel was created in April 2013 and has over 14.6K subscribers and 878 videos.

Erica is a young woman who knows what she wants and certainly what she doesn't want. In her videos, she speaks about the pros and cons of knives and gear. She uses her knives and keeps them always razor-sharp. In some of her films, she also shows leather sheaths and other sleeves that she makes by hand. Sometimes she talks about the daily things and struggles in life, and that makes her more human to me. When things go badly or sadly, you don't have to hide behind a fake smile. Goibniu makes a shout-out for her channel. Erica deserves more subscribers.

The knives that play a leading role in her films are all of high quality, and she knows her stuff. So that is why Goibniu rates this channel with: ####

D) Zac in the Wild !

Who? Zac! Where? In the Wild!

Zac, I discovered in a YouTube video from Blade HQ, and he did that work well. But he has quit his job and started Zac in the Wild. He took a break for a reason, but he came back, and how.His channel started in September 2020 and currently has more than 148K subscribers and 129 videos.  You could say that's few! Yes, but all are good-quality videos with a punch. Zac builds and restores things, talks about good knives and gear, and, in between all that, he's in the wild with a good book. Together with Civivi Knives, he released a knife he designed, called the Yonder.

E) Junkyard FOX

The last channel on my top 5 is about using knives and gear in the wilderness. James, the creator of the Junkyard Fox channel, does this meanwhile with his best friend, Guervo.  With a native spirit, they take you on their adventures.  But not only that, they also talk about the knives and gear they use and in which season. 99% of the videos are filmed outdoors. He has more than 120K subscribers and 457 videos. You will discover in his videos that he takes his time testing stuff before he makes a film about it. That gives the subscriber a more realistic idea.

The guitar music in his videos was made and played by Guervo; you can find his music on Spotify under "El Guervo Negro".

The Goibniu rate will be: ###/####
