Fixed blades

A few weeks ago I wrote about folding knives; now I will tell you some things about fixed blades. They also come in different categories. You've got industrial, handmade, in-series handmade, semi-industrial, forged, stock removal, and one-of-a-kind custom knives, ranging from small neck knife size to huge belt knives with different forms and points.

So you get different choices for each knife group. The EDC community wants 95% small fixed knives that they can carry in their pocket. The outdoor community (split into hikers, bushcrafters, hunters, survival-lovers, and others) wants a sturdy belt knife that does the work, knowing that in the old days, men carried a butcher-style kind of knife. But now you have so many brands and knifemakers that make knives for whatever you need them for, that you could never understand why.

II think I could write an encyclopedia about fixed blades.

You have knives made for military purposes, ancient martial arts, daggers for HEMA, and nowadays even kitchen knives have their own category.

Every country and different part of our planet has its own knife history and culture. And yes, I know that there is much more to write about and that there are many more different kinds of brands and models than there are in my pictures. But if you know the meaning of my blog, then you know that I want you, as my reader, to go out and discover by yourself how many makers, brands, and places there are where you can find out more about fixed blades. Life is a journey, and I, as a knife passionate, still discover new things every week.
